Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 cup Christmas-colored sprinkles
  • 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 3 tablespoons buttermilk (plus more if needed)
  • 1 tablespoon light corn syrup
  • Christmas-colored nonpareils (for topping)

Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.
  2. 2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. 3. In another bowl, whisk together the egg, buttermilk, melted butter, and almond extract.
  4. 4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir just until combined; gently fold in the sprinkles.
  5. 5. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake for 45–50 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. 6. Cool the bread in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  7. 7. Once cool, whisk together powdered sugar, buttermilk, and corn syrup, then glaze the loaf and top with nonpareils.
