Ingredients

  • 1 pound beef (flank steak or sirloin)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 bell peppers (sliced)
  • 1 onion (sliced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger (optional)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon honey or sugar
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 cup beef or chicken broth
  • 4 cups cooked rice (white or brown)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • Green onions (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. 1. Prep your ingredients by slicing the beef against the grain or using ground beef directly.
  2. 2. In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, honey or sugar, red pepper flakes, and broth to create the sauce.
  3. 3. Heat a tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and cook the beef for 3-4 minutes (steak) or 5-6 minutes (ground beef) until no longer pink, then set aside.
  4. 4. Add another tablespoon of oil to the same skillet, sauté minced garlic, grated ginger, sliced onion, and bell peppers for 3-4 minutes until slightly tender.
  5. 5. Return the beef to the skillet, pour in the sauce, and simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes until thickened.
  6. 6. Serve over cooked rice and garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
