Description

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 4 cups thinly sliced apples (about 4 medium apples)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: caramel sauce for drizzling

Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. 2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. 3. Press two-thirds of this mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking pan to form the crust.
  4. 4. Bake the crust for 15 minutes or until lightly golden. Let cool slightly.
  5. 5. Meanwhile, toss the sliced apples with the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cornstarch, lemon juice, and vanilla extract.
  6. 6. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the baked crust and sprinkle the remaining crumble mixture on top.
  7. 7. Return the pan to the oven and bake for 35–40 minutes until the top is golden brown and apples are tender.
