Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
  • 3 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Cream cheese frosting (for topping)

Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing and flouring them.
  2. 2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. 3. In another bowl, mix the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, vanilla extract, and red food coloring until combined.
  4. 4. Add the cocoa powder to the wet ingredients and mix well.
  5. 5. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
