Ingredients
1 pound ground beef
1 large onion, thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup beef broth
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon soy sauce
Salt and pepper, to taste
4 hamburger buns, toasted
2 cups shredded Swiss cheese
2 tablespoons butter
Fresh thyme, optional

Instructions
1. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown and caramelized, about 20-25 minutes.
2. Once the onions are ready, add the ground beef and garlic to the skillet. Cook, breaking up the meat with a spatula, until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat if necessary.
3. Stir in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, Dijon mustard, and soy sauce. Let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes to meld flavors and thicken the sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
4. Lightly toast the hamburger buns. This helps them stand up to the sloppy filling.
5. Spoon the filling onto the bottom buns, top with shredded Swiss cheese, and place under the broiler for 1-2 minutes until melted and bubbly.
6. Add the top buns and garnish with fresh thyme if desired. Serve hot.
