Ingredients

  • 1 package (17.3 ounce) puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg yolk (for the cream cheese filling)
  • 1/4 cup fruit jam or preserves (apricot, raspberry, strawberry, or peach)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon coarse sugar (optional, for sprinkling edges)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2–3 tablespoons milk (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. 2. Beat together cream cheese, granulated sugar, lemon juice, vanilla extract, and egg yolk until smooth.
  3. 3. Unfold and roll out the puff pastry. Cut into 8 squares and place on the baking sheet.
  4. 4. Score a half-inch border around each square and dock the center with a fork.
  5. 5. Spoon the cream cheese mixture into each square, top with fruit jam.
  6. 6. Brush the edges with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired.
  7. 7. Bake for 15–18 minutes until puffed and golden brown. Let cool for 5 minutes.
  8. 8. Mix powdered sugar with milk and drizzle over cooled danishes.
