Description

Warm, buttery, and gently spiced, this homemade butter chicken is comfort food with a touch of indulgence. Tender pieces of marinated chicken swim in a rich tomato-cream sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless chicken thighs
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • Salt to taste
  • Cooked rice for serving
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. 1. In a bowl, marinate the chicken with yogurt, lemon juice, cumin, coriander, garam masala, turmeric, and ginger-garlic paste for at least 1 hour.
  2. 2. In a large pan, melt butter over medium heat, and add chopped onions. Sauté until golden brown.
  3. 3. Add the marinated chicken to the pan and cook until browned on all sides.
  4. 4. Pour in crushed tomatoes, add salt, and simmer for 20 minutes, until chicken is cooked through.
  5. 5. Stir in heavy cream and cook for an additional 5 minutes, adjusting seasoning if necessary.
  6. 6. Serve hot with cooked rice and garnish with fresh cilantro.
