Description

Delicious homemade soft pretzels that are chewy on the outside and soft on the inside, customizable with your favorite toppings.

Ingredients

  • 2 and 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 and 1/2 cups warm water
  • 4 and 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 6 cups water
  • 2 tbsp baking soda
  • 1 egg
  • Coarse salt (for topping)
  • Everything but the bagel seasoning (for topping)

Instructions

  1. 1. Combine the warm water, yeast, and brown sugar in a bowl and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. 2. Add the flour, olive oil, and salt; knead the dough on low for about 5 minutes until it forms a ball.
  3. 3. Drizzle olive oil on the dough, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  4. 4. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 pieces.
  5. 5. Roll each piece into a rope about 18-24 inches long and shape them into pretzels.
  6. 6. Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C).
  7. 7. Boil 6 cups of water and 2 tbsp of baking soda; dip each pretzel for 15-30 seconds.
  8. 8. Brush pretzels with egg wash, sprinkle with coarse salt and seasoning.
  9. 9. Bake for 10-11 minutes until golden brown.
  10. 10. Let them cool on a wire rack and serve with your favorite dips.
