Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat the oven and prepare the pan: Move the oven rack to the upper third of the oven and preheat to 350°F (177°C). Line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy lifting. Lightly butter or spray the exposed pan edges to prevent sticking.
  2. 2. Whisk dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 cup sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, and 1 teaspoon kosher salt until evenly combined.
  3. 3. Mix wet ingredients: In a separate medium bowl, whisk together 1 cup buttermilk, 1 large lightly beaten egg, 1/2 cup melted unsalted butter, and 1/2 teaspoon almond extract until smooth.
  4. 4. Combine wet and dry: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined.
  5. 5. Fold in sprinkles: Gently fold in 1/2 cup of Christmas-colored sprinkles.
  6. 6. Transfer to pan and bake: Scrape the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top. Bake for 45–50 minutes or until a cake tester comes out mostly clean.
  7. 7. Cool properly: Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then lift it out using the parchment overhang.
  8. 8. Make the glaze: Once the bread is completely cool, whisk together 2 cups sifted powdered sugar, 3 tablespoons buttermilk, and 1 tablespoon light corn syrup.
  9. 9. Glaze and decorate: Spoon the glaze over the loaf and immediately sprinkle with Christmas-colored nonpareils.
  10. 10. Serve: Slice and enjoy this festive bread.
