Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Pink food coloring

Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. 2. Cream together the butter and sugar until pale and fluffy.
  3. 3. Add eggs one at a time and then stir in vanilla.
  4. 4. Whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl.
  5. 5. Alternate adding the dry mixture and buttermilk to the creamed mixture.
  6. 6. Add pink food coloring until desired shade is achieved.
  7. 7. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes.
  8. 8. Allow the cakes to cool in pans, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
