Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. 2. In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. 3. In another bowl, combine oil, buttermilk, eggs, cocoa powder, food coloring, and vanilla.
  4. 4. Add the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until combined.
  5. 5. In a separate bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth, then mix in powdered sugar, egg, and vanilla until well combined.
  6. 6. Pour half of the red velvet batter into the prepared pan, then spoon dollops of the cheesecake mixture on top.
  7. 7. Pour the remaining red velvet batter over the cheesecake layer and swirl with a knife to create a marble effect.
  8. 8. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
